The return of the mixtape.
No elaborate mixing apart from smooth changes from one track to the next.
Cloudspeaker Vol. XIII is titled ‘Changes’ because lately, so many things have changed, mostly to the better. My research project changed because it gained a greater amount of attention; the graffiti in my neighbourhood has changed because someone painted it over with white; my daily routine changed since my girlfriend now works at the UN in Paris; students of mine changed into friends before my very own eyes; and finally the weather changed from pleasantly warm to hot and sultry.

Some of the tracks are intended as shout-outs to the following people: Adele’s track is for Evren whose students I will never forget when they sang ‘Rolling In The Deep’, an experience much like watching The Simpsons sing ‘In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida‘; the Led Zeppelin track is for my research-assistant-turned-friend Haeryung for our many pleasant meetings while she was in Seoul; Jazzanova’s track is for Izumi for staying in touch; Marcus Miller’s track is for Marek, the best friend a man can have; the Boss’ track is for Chaerin whom I want to dance in the dark with; Tomita’s track is for my amazing dad who is solid as a rock; and Ton Steine Scherben’s track ‘Everything changes’ is for the Spanish miners who marched hundreds of kilometres from northern Spain to Madrid to protest against the government’s austerity measures, only for them and their sympathisers to be brutally attacked by the police.

About Cloudspeaker
Inspired by a friend I compiled a list of my top ten tracks of the last decade – which took me longer than I expected. I picked tracks of ten musicians or bands that impressed me over the last ten years and eventually had to add a bonus track to fit it all in. The result was Cloudspeaker Vol. 1. The title ‘Cloudspeaker’ and the artwork are used by courtesy of German product designer Johannes Tsopanides (Shapes In Play).
